The effigy is rendered in high relief in a classical portrait style. A continuous circular legend surrounds the bust reading CAROL I REGE AL ROMANIEI. The design is bordered by an outer beaded rim (grenetis).

Reverse description The crowned coat of arms of the Kingdom of Romania occupies the central field, supported by the royal shield with quartered arms.
