Nepal's earliest paper currency series, of which P#2 is a part, was introduced during the reign of King Tribhuvan and issued by the government directly rather than through a central bank — the Nepal Rastra Bank wouldn't exist until 1956. The India Security Press at Nashik handled production, a practical arrangement reflecting Nepal's close monetary ties with India at the time.
Two known signature varieties across the issue span roughly seven years, with Janak Raj Pandit signing the earliest examples from 1945 and Bharat Raj Pandit appearing on later issues from 1948 onward. The signature variety is the primary collector distinction within this type.
