| Reverse description | Central field dominated by a large Latin capital letter M, the Greek numeral denoting the value of 40 nummi as adapted in Visigothic bronze coinage, here serving as the principal type and denomination mark. The M is rendered in a broad, somewhat irregular form characteristic of hammered provincial issues, occupying the lower half of the flan. Above the M, a rudimentary cross or pellet device is faintly discernible. The mint mark or abbreviated mint name for Malaga (Malaca) is associated with this type per Vives 190-191. The flan is of irregular shape with a heavily corroded and pitted surface displaying a dark brown and green patina. |
