Obverse description Diademed and draped bust of Emperor Anastasius I facing right, rendered in a schematic late antique style characteristic of early Byzantine minor coinage. The emperor is depicted wearing a pearl diadem and imperial paludamentum, with simplified facial features typical of small-module hammered issues. The surrounding Latin legend D N ANASTASIVS PP AVG (Dominus Noster Anastasivs Perpetuus Augustus) runs along the outer edge of the flan, partially legible due to the irregular striking. The field is flat and unadorned, with the bust occupying the central device.

Reverse description The reverse is dominated by a large Greek numeral Є (epsilon, denoting the value of 5 nummi) occupying the central field, rendered boldly in the schematic style typical of Anastasian pentanummia. To the right of the numeral appears the officina letter, and flanking or adjacent to the Є is the mint mark AN, denoting the Antioch mint. The design is stark and utilitarian, with minimal ornamentation, consistent with the functional character of low-denomination Byzantine copper coinage of this period. The plain field surrounding the numeral shows the characteristic irregular flan edges of hammered production.
