Obverse description The obverse carries a central vignette of President Manuel Quezon at left, within an ornate guilloche border. The main legend reads 'THE COMMONWEALTH OF THE PHILIPPINES / WILL PAY TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND / FIVE PESOS', with additional text identifying this as an 'EMERGENCY CIRCULATING NOTE OF 1942 / ISSUED BY AUTHORITY OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES ON JANUARY 20, 1942'. Three signature lines appear at the bottom for the Provincial Fiscal Member, Provincial Treasurer Chairman, and Acting Provincial Auditor Member, with a circular date stamp reading 'City of Bacolod Jan 26, 1942' at lower right.
