The design is rendered in detailed relief against a plain field. The encircling legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS appears in the stainless steel outer ring. |

| Reverse description | The aluminium bronze centre displays a three-quarter facing bust of Francisco Xavier Mina, the Spanish-born independence fighter, with his face turned slightly to the left. To the left of the bust appears the mint mark 'Mo' above the date 2008, while the denomination '$5' is positioned to the right. The sitter's name FRANCISCO XAVIER MINA is inscribed in a curved legend along the lower portion of the centre. The stainless steel outer ring carries the commemorative legend BICENTENARIO DE LA INDEPENDENCIA arching around the upper half, with MÉXICO 2010 along the lower arc, flanked by two small circular ornaments. |
