| Reverse description | A prominent tree, representing the ceiba or national tree of Central America, divides the reverse field centrally, with crossed olive or laurel branches at the base flanked by five-pointed stars in the upper field. The denomination 5 Ps. is inscribed prominently, with the commemorative independence date 15 DE SET. 1821 and the silver fineness 0.900 appearing in the lower portion. The patriotic motto DIOS UNION LIBERTAD is arranged as a continuous legend around the periphery of the design. The composition reflects the Central American republican tradition of incorporating independence commemorative elements into coinage designs. |
