Syria's Central Bank was established in 1956, taking over note issue from the Syrian branch of the Banque de Syrie et du Liban — a transition tied directly to the expiration of that institution's concession following Syrian independence. This series bridged an unusually turbulent stretch: the short-lived United Arab Republic union with Egypt (1958–1961), a Ba'athist coup in 1963, and continued political instability through the early 1970s, meaning notes of this type circulated across radically different governments without the design changing to reflect any of them.
The fifteen-year date range on P#87 suggests multiple print runs rather than a single large issue.
