The Belfast Banking Company Limited was one of the older joint-stock banks operating in Ulster, founded in 1827 and eventually absorbed into the Midland Bank group in 1917 — meaning this 1918 note was issued almost immediately after that acquisition, while the old name and branding were still in use during the transition period.
Charles Skipper & East handled much of the Irish provincial bank printing business from London through this period. The firm's engraved work for Ulster banks is generally fine, though the Belfast Banking Company series is less studied than the concurrent output for Bank of Ireland or Ulster Bank.
