Kibbutz Mishmar Hanegev, founded in 1946 in the northern Negev, issued its own internal scrip as a matter of practical necessity — the kibbutz economy operated on collective principles that made conventional currency functionally redundant for external transactions but required some medium for internal accounting or canteen use. These notes circulated only within the community itself, never entering the broader Palestinian or later Israeli monetary system.
Kibbutz scrip of this period is among the most obscure of all pre-state Israeli emergency issues, and Mishmar Hanegev examples surface rarely.
