Obverse description At centre, a large Imperial crown rendered in fine detail occupies the central field, enclosed within an ornate beaded inner circle. The date 1852 appears prominently below the crown, with the engraver's signature J. PAYNE inscribed in small letters beneath it. The surrounding legend GOVERNMENT ASSAY OFFICE arcs across the upper portion of the coin, while ADELAIDE. is inscribed along the lower periphery. Small floral rosette devices flank the date at either side. The entire design is framed by a bold outer beaded border.
