The Reichskommissariat Ostland was the Nazi civil administration governing the occupied Baltic states and western Belarus from 1941. This 5 Punkte note belongs to the Punkte — "points" — currency system introduced for rationed goods distribution across the Ostland territories, a parallel instrument designed to sit alongside the Reichskreditkassenschein and ordinary Reichsmarks without replacing either.
Printed at the Lettlands Wertpapierdruckerei in Riga, the notes were produced using an occupied Latvian state printing facility. By 1943, Soviet forces were already reversing German gains in the east; the entire Ostland administrative apparatus would collapse within two years of this note's issue.
