Obverse description The central field displays a bilingual inscription in Arabic and French denoting the issuing authority, arranged across multiple horizontal lines and flanked by an ornate interlaced arabesque border that encircles the entire design. The Arabic legend 'دولة سورية' (State of Syria) occupies the central register, with 'ETAT' above and 'DE SYRIE' below in Latin characters. The Hijri date in Eastern Arabic-Indic numerals appears in the upper portion of the field, while the Gregorian year is rendered in Western numerals in the lower portion. The overall decorative composition reflects the Franco-Syrian Mandate aesthetic, combining Islamic geometric ornament with French colonial typography.

Reverse description The central field features the denomination numeral '5' in Western figures to the left and the Eastern Arabic-Indic numeral '٥' to the right, flanking a central motif of two crossed grain ears rising from their junction, symbolising agricultural prosperity. Below the numerals, the Arabic inscription 'خمسة غروش' (five piastres) is rendered in flowing script. The French legend 'CINQ PIASTRES' arcs across the upper field in raised Latin capitals. The entire design is enclosed within the same elaborate interlaced arabesque border as the obverse, maintaining visual coherence across both faces.
