Reverse description The reverse features a boldly struck armillary sphere at center, its intersecting rings and latitude lines rendered in fine detail, symbolizing Portuguese maritime dominion and colonial authority. The sphere occupies the majority of the coin's field and is presented without a mintmark. A continuous circular Latin legend surrounds the device, running along the full periphery between the field and the outer rim.
