Additional information

Antarctica issues no sovereign currency and has no monetary authority — these "Vostok Station" roubles are fantasy pieces, struck by private mints and sold directly to collectors. The Russian Vostok Station, where the Soviet Union recorded the lowest natural air temperature on Earth (−89.2°C in 1983), provides the romanticized subject matter. No transaction was ever conducted with this coin anywhere near the ice.
