| Obverse description | The obverse is engraved in a classical letterpress and intaglio style on plain paper, with the royal arms vignette — a crowned shield supported by a lion and a unicorn — centred at the top, inscribed above with INCORPORATED BY ROYAL CHARTER. Oval denomination panels reading FIVE RUPEES flank the arms at upper left and right, with the place and date line BADULLA, CEYLON below, followed by the bank title THE ORIENTAL BANK CORPORATION in bold letterpress. The promise-to-pay text, expressed in both English and Sinhala script, references the Colombo branch, and the note closes with the authorization line By order of the Court of Directors, above manuscript accountant and agent signature lines. A fine geometric guilloche border frames the entire composition. |
