Pakistan's earliest banknote series was produced by Thomas De La Rue almost immediately after independence, as the new State Bank lacked any domestic printing infrastructure. This 5 Rupee note falls within a long issue window — 1951 to 1967 — during which the design remained unchanged while the country navigated the 1958 military coup, the first martial law administration, and the transition from dominion to republic status in 1956. The notes issued across that span are nominally identical but carry different signatures reflecting successive State Bank governors.

Signature identification is the primary collector distinction within this series.
