| Obverse description | The State Emblem of Ceylon — a lion passant within a circular wreath — is rendered in intaglio at the left field against a red guilloche underprint, forming the principal vignette of the obverse. The denomination numeral '5' appears in each lower corner, with 'FIVE RUPEES' inscribed in English in the upper left area and the equivalent value rendered in Sinhala and Tamil scripts at centre. The issuing authority title in Sinhala script runs along the upper border, with the issue date and two manuscript signatures of bank officials positioned in the lower centre. |
