Nepal Rastra Bank has sourced banknote printing from multiple foreign suppliers over the decades — including De La Rue and the Security Printing Centre in Kathmandu — but this series was produced by the China Banknote Printing and Minting Corporation, which has held an increasing share of South and Southeast Asian printing contracts since the 1990s. The choice drew little public comment domestically, though Nepal's close economic ties with both India and China have made currency procurement a quietly political matter at times.
