This piece is one of hundreds of privately commissioned "fantasy issues" produced for the collector market under the guise of Indonesian regional identities — Maluku, like other Indonesian provinces, issues no sovereign or semi-sovereign coinage. The rupee denomination is itself a fiction; Indonesia's currency is the rupiah, a detail the producers either missed or ignored. Polycentropsis abbreviata, the African pygmy climbing perch, has no particular connection to Maluku's ecology, which further suggests a bulk wildlife-theme series assembled without geographic scrutiny.
