The Banca Nazionale Somala was dissolved just a year after this note's issue, replaced by the Bankiga Qaranka Soomaaliyeed following the nationalization of the banking sector under Siad Barre's Supreme Revolutionary Council. Notes from this short-lived institution exist in relatively limited numbers simply because its operational window was so narrow — the bank had only been established in 1960 at independence, giving it just over a decade before the state absorbed it entirely.
Thomas De La Rue produced the series, as they did for much of Somalia's early post-independence paper currency.
