| Obverse description | The Jamaican coat of arms occupies the central field, featuring a quartered shield bearing five pineapples on a cross, supported by two Taíno figures in traditional dress — a female supporter to the left holding a basket of fruit, and a male supporter to the right bearing a bow. Above the shield, a crocodile crest rests upon a royal helm and mantling. A scroll beneath the shield bears the national motto. The legend 'JAMAICA' curves along the upper periphery, with 'FIVE SHILLINGS' disposed along the lower arc, all within a beaded border. |

| Additional information |
Jamaica's 1966 Commonwealth Games were held in Kingston — the first time the Games had been staged in the Caribbean and only the second time outside the British Isles, Canada, or Australia. The five-shilling piece was issued to mark them, appearing just months before Jamaica decimalized its currency in September 1969, which makes this one of the last substantial commemorative issues under the old shilling system.
