| Reverse description | The quartered shield of the South African Coat of Arms occupies the central field, surmounted by a royal crown. The four quarters depict respectively a figure with an anchor, a leaping springbok, an orange tree, and a wagon, representing the provinces of the Union of South Africa. The bilingual legend SOUTH AFRICA to the left and ZUID AFRIKA to the right runs along the periphery within a milled border. The date 1937 is divided by the shield on either side, and the denomination numeral 5 appears at the base of the design flanked by decorative floral ornaments. |
