Reverse description Bare-headed left-facing bust of Antonio José de Sucre, Venezuelan-born liberator and hero of Ecuadorian independence, occupies the central field. The circular legend REPUBLICA DEL ECUADOR runs along the upper periphery. The date 1944 appears in the lower exergue. The portrait exhibits the soft, slightly indistinct relief characteristic of this contemporary counterfeit striking.
