The Antarctica Overseas Exchange Office Ltd. was a private novelty issuer, not a monetary authority of any kind. These notes were produced as souvenirs and have no legal tender status under any jurisdiction — Antarctica has none to grant. BA International in Ottawa, the successor entity to the long-running British American Bank Note Company, printed them to full commercial banknote specification nonetheless, complete with holographic security strip, which is an unusual level of production investment for what amounts to a collectible.
McMurdo Station operates under U.S. Antarctic Program administration. No currency has ever circulated there in any official capacity.
