Reverse description The reverse presents the denomination 50 in large numerals prominently at the center of the field, with CENTAVOS inscribed immediately below in smaller letters. A double dotted inner circle frames the central denomination device, creating a decorative border. The circumferential legend REPÚBLICA·PORTUGUESA arcs along the upper periphery, while the commemorative date span 1446–1946 is displayed along the lower margin, referencing the historical period of Guinea's discovery. Small rosette stops punctuate the legend, consistent with the decorative conventions of Portuguese colonial coinage.

Additional information

Guinea was not yet a Portuguese "province" in any administrative sense when this issue appeared — the territory was governed under a shifting colonial framework that made even routine coinage decisions politically charged in Lisbon. The 1946 bronze series for Guiné was struck at the Casa da Moeda amid post-war metal supply disruptions that had forced several colonial issues to be delayed or redesigned entirely.

The "Discovery" designation in the series name references the Gomes catalog classification, not a commemorative intent.
