Obverse description The arms of San Marino — a heart-shaped shield bearing three towers on a horizontally lined field — occupies the central field, surmounted by a mural crown. The shield is flanked by an ornate wreath composed of laurel branches on the left and oak branches on the right, tied at the base. The circular legend RESPVBLICA S. MARINI LIBERTAS runs along the periphery, divided by the wreath, with the initial S visible at the lower right of the field.

Reverse description The denomination 50 in large numerals occupies the upper portion of the central field, with CENTESIMI inscribed below in a single line, and the date 1898 beneath that, all enclosed within a wreath of laurel and oak branches tied at the base. The Rome Mint mark R appears in the exergue below the wreath, just above the beaded border.
