Obverse description Right-facing bust of Manuel Javier Rodríguez Erdoíza (1785–1818), Chilean patriot, military officer, and statesman regarded as one of the founding heroes of the Chilean nation. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine portraiture detail. The legend REPUBLICA DE CHILE arcs along the upper periphery, while the designer's signature F.ORE.P. and the abbreviated name M.RODRIGUEZ appear in the field. The overall style is characteristic of mid-twentieth-century Latin American medallic engraving.
