Reverse description Large numeral '50' dominates the central field, rendered in bold incuse-outlined relief. The denomination legend CENTESIMOS curves along the lower portion of the coin. Flanking the numeral on either side are two olive or laurel sprigs, symmetrically positioned and rising from the lower field toward the upper rim, consistent with the decorative vocabulary of Uruguayan coinage of the period.

Additional information

Uruguay's military dictatorship, which seized power in June 1973, maintained tight control over economic policy throughout this coin's production run. Chronic inflation plagued the peso throughout the 1970s, and the 50 centésimos denomination was effectively eroded to negligibility well before the series ended — a fate that would accelerate dramatically into the 1980s currency crisis.
