| Obverse description | Bare-headed right-facing effigy of José Gervasio Artigas, national hero of Uruguay, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and facial features. The portrait occupies the majority of the field, with the neck truncation at the lower centre. The circular legend reads REPUBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY along the upper periphery, framed by a decorative dentilated border. The name ARTIGAS appears in bold letters at the base of the portrait, flanked by five-pointed stars, all within the same decorative border. |

| Reverse description | Central field displays the denomination 50 CENTÉSIMOS in bold lettering, flanked symmetrically by olive branches curving upward from the base on either side. Beneath the denomination, a stylised rising sun with radiating straight rays fills the lower portion of the field, evoking the Sun of May motif. The date 1943 appears in the exergue below the sun device. The overall composition is framed by a dentilated border consistent with the obverse. |
