The Territoire du Cameroun notes of 1922 were issued under French League of Nations mandate, following Germany's loss of Kamerun after the First World War. France administered the larger eastern portion of the former colony, and these fractional denomination notes addressed a chronic shortage of small change — coins were slow to arrive and often hoarded when they did.
Pick 4 is among the scarcer early issues of this mandate period. The territory's monetary administration was provisional by nature, and low-denomination paper was typically the first to be destroyed or discarded once metal coinage became available.
