The Solomon Islands has issued novelty-format coinage under legal tender frameworks since the 1970s, but the current wave of silver-plated iron pieces — marketed primarily to collectors in Asia and Europe — has little connection to the islands' actual monetary circulation. These are produced under contract by private minting houses and distributed through dealer networks, never touching the Pacific economy they nominally represent.
