Additional information

Belize gained independence from Britain in 1981, but these coins predate that event — the series began in 1974 under the name British Honduras had already been dropped in favor of Belize two years prior, a renaming that itself reflected the territorial dispute with Guatemala, which had long claimed the colony as its own province. The Guatemalan claim kept British troops stationed there well into the 1990s.

KM#118 reflects a later die revision; collectors tracking the full series should note the two catalogue numbers represent distinct production phases across the 43-year span.
