Obverse description The national coat of arms of Belize occupies the central field, flanked by two human supporters — a mestizo woodcutter to the left and a creole sailor to the right — each standing upon a wreath of branches that encircles the entire design. The shield bears a mahogany tree above crossed tools and a sailing ship in the lower quarter, with the motto SUB UMBRA FLOREO inscribed on a scroll at its base. The country name BELIZE arcs along the upper legend in bold Latin lettering, while the date appears in the lower field. The composition is rendered in a detailed, medallic style consistent with the work of engraver Michael Rizzello. A beaded border frames the entire design.
