Obverse description The obverse presents a youthful, diademed effigy of Queen Victoria in high relief, facing left, with hair drawn back and secured by a ribbon at the nape. The portrait is rendered in a refined neoclassical style by engraver Leonard Charles Wyon. The legend VICTORIA DEI GRATIA REGINA arcs around the upper periphery, while CANADA is inscribed along the lower border. The field surrounding the bust is smooth and deeply mirrored, as befitting a pattern striking. The overall design is crisp and finely detailed, consistent with the high production standards of the Royal Mint.
