This polymer commemorative marks five decades of the Currency Interchangeability Agreement between Singapore and Brunei, originally signed on 12 June 1967 — an arrangement that has outlasted the dissolution of countless regional monetary unions and remains fully operational today. Under the agreement, Singapore dollars and Brunei dollars are accepted at par in each other's territory, a quiet institutional achievement that almost never makes headlines precisely because it works.

The three-designer credit is unusual for a single commemorative note and reflects the joint nature of the issue — a matching 50 Ringgit was issued simultaneously by Brunei's AMBD.
