Bradbury Wilkinson printed New Zealand's high-denomination paper issues for decades, but the firm closed in 1990 — absorbed into American Banknote Corporation — meaning the later dates in this 1981–1992 series were almost certainly produced under transitional arrangements before New Zealand shifted its banknote contracts entirely. The Hardie and Brash signature variants span two Governors: Dick Hardie served through the mid-1980s, and Don Brash took the role in 1988, placing his signature on the final years of this paper issue before polymer replaced it.
