Nagorno-Karabakh's coinage program was always more political act than monetary policy — the republic issued coins to assert statehood that only a handful of governments ever recognized. The 2021 date makes this piece particularly striking in retrospect: Azerbaijan's military offensive in September of that year effectively ended the republic's autonomous existence, rendering this among the final issues struck under that government's authority.
