Reverse description A naturalistic sprig of tea plant (Camellia sinensis) is depicted in high relief at the centre of the field, rendered with detailed foliage. The circular legend 'BANQUE NATIONALE DU RWANDA' curves around the upper periphery, while the date '1977' appears at the base of the design, flanked by small decorative marks. The rim is bordered by the same decorative chain-link pattern as the obverse.

Pattern coinage from Rwanda in this period reflects the Habyarimana government's broader effort to assert institutional identity following the 1973 coup — the Banque Nationale had only been issuing its own coinage since 1964, and denominations were still being tested for practical viability. KM#E7 was never adopted for circulation, leaving total surviving examples almost certainly in the single digits.
