Swiss Bankers Travellers Cheques were issued by a consortium of major Swiss banks — UBS, Credit Suisse, and others — operating under the Swiss Bankers Association umbrella. Unlike conventional travellers cheques from American Express or Thomas Cook, these were denominated in Swiss francs and designed specifically to serve as a hard-currency alternative during periods when franc convertibility was a genuine selling point for international travellers.
Guilloche printing on Swiss-issued instruments of this kind was typically executed domestically, where the tradition of security printing runs deep — several of the same firms producing Swiss banknotes had commercial relationships with the consortium.
