Patterns struck for Constantine II in 1966 were produced as the Greek monarchy entered its final turbulent years — the military junta seized power in April 1967, and Constantine's botched counter-coup in December of that year sent him into permanent exile. This piece was never adopted for circulation, and the denomination itself was eventually issued in nickel-brass under the junta.
