Libya's coinage program under King Idris was modest almost by design — the government relied heavily on foreign currency and American/British military expenditure well into the 1960s, which dampened any urgency around a robust domestic currency infrastructure. This 1965 issue was among the last struck before the September 1969 coup that brought Muammar Gaddafi to power and ended the Senussi monarchy entirely.
Post-revolution authorities wasted little time demonetizing royal-era coinage, which kept circulation life short for this series.
