The British Antarctic Territory is a genuine UK Overseas Territory administered from the Falkland Islands, but its coin program functions almost entirely as a collector series — no circulating economy exists to absorb them. The Emperor penguin colony at Snow Hill Island, within the Territory's boundaries, gained renewed scientific attention after a catastrophic 2022 breeding failure linked to early sea-ice loss, making the species a pointed choice for this issue even if the motivation was almost certainly commercial.
