| Additional information |
Charles III has sat for four official coinage effigies since his accession in 2022 — an unusually rapid succession driven partly by the scale of the global currency changeover from Elizabeth II portraits. This piece carries the designation "Final Effigy," a label the Royal Mint and its licensees have used to signal the definitive, settled portrait intended to see out the reign. Ascension Island, administered under the Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha territory, issues its own distinct coinage despite having no permanent civilian population — only military and support personnel on rotating contracts.
