| Reverse description | A detailed architectural rendering of the Grand Staircase occupies the upper portion of the reverse, depicting the sweeping double staircase with ornate wrought-iron balustrades, flanking columns, and a crowning statue on a pedestal above the central arch. A central oval cartouche within the staircase composition bears the numeral 200, commemorating the bicentenary. The lower field displays the inscription THE GRAND STAIRCASE flanked by fleur-de-lis devices, with the denomination 50p below, also flanked by fleur-de-lis. The design was executed by Quentin Peacock. |
