Reverse description The reverse is composed entirely of intricate guilloche lathe-work arranged in a symmetrical pattern, with four large denomination medallions bearing '50' at the corners and two medallions with the pound sterling symbol '£' at centre left and right. A central oval guilloche rosette carries the 'MUESTRA' overprint. The upper arc reads 'EL BANCO DE' and the lower arc 'SAN JUAN', completing the bank title around the central vignette. A small imprint line appears at the lower centre margin.

The Banco de San Juan was one of several provincial Argentine banks chartered during the 1850s and 1860s, operating in a period when no single national currency authority existed and each province effectively managed its own paper money supply. Many of these institutions were undercapitalized from the start, and their notes traded at significant discounts outside their home provinces — sometimes worthless beyond a single valley.

PS1884 is poorly documented in the standard literature. Surviving examples are rare enough that condition census data is essentially nonexistent.
