Additional information

Issued under the FAO coinage program, which recruited central banks worldwide to mint coins carrying agricultural themes as a low-cost vehicle for rural development messaging. Myanmar's participation came while the country was under SLORC military rule, following the brutal suppression of the 1988 pro-democracy uprising — the junta's decision to engage with a UN-affiliated program was largely cosmetic, as domestic food distribution remained severely disrupted.
