| Obverse description | Printed in red and multicolour on a light ground, the obverse bears a large intaglio portrait of Carlos O. Zachrisson at right, set against a stepped Mayan pyramid vignette, with a quetzal bird in flight and a Mayan codex illustration to the left flanking a central guilloche rosette carrying the denomination numeral '50'. The bank title 'BANCO DE GUATEMALA' and sub-legend 'GUATEMALA, CENTRO AMERICA' occupy the upper register, while three facsimile signature lines with corresponding role titles appear below the central vignette.
