Reichskreditkassen notes were not ordinary military scrip — they were instruments of occupation finance, issued to German forces and used to extract goods and labor from occupied territories without drawing on Reich currency reserves. The 50 Reichsmark denomination circulated alongside the regular Reichsmark but was theoretically inconvertible, a distinction largely ignored in practice wherever German military authority held.
The 1944 date places this issue in the war's final phase, when Wehrmacht positions were contracting on all fronts. Notes from this printing saw heavy use in the retreating campaigns across France and the Low Countries following the Allied landings.
