| Obverse description | Printed in blue, purple, and multicolour, the obverse carries a three-quarter portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in tiara at left, set against a guilloche underprint. The central panel bears the legal tender text within an ornate oval vignette, with the denomination FIFTY RUPEES rendered in bold intaglio lettering below. Bilingual inscriptions in Sinhala and Tamil appear above, with the serial number and date of issue printed at lower left and centre respectively. |
